Agilent Technologies (agilent.com) was spun off from Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 1999, and its IPO was the largest in Silicon Valley history at that time. Today, the company produces technology to serve analytical laboratories and the clinical and routine diagnostics markets but when it was spun out it was focused on the telecommunications market.
