Mornings
What I do before nine.
I have been rearranging my mornings for more than a decade. This is where it has landed.
I do not use the morning for deep work. I use it to set the day up so most of it runs without me touching it.
The physical work happens first and I do all of it myself. While I am doing it, the agents are already working. By the time I sit down with my journal, a candle, water, coffee, and breakfast, the house is reset and the digital day is underway.
I do these
- A walk
- Out for coffee, with a dog
- Any errand the day needs
- Move the laundry
- Empty the dishwasher, reload it, start it
- Tidy the kitchen
- Make breakfast. Usually oatmeal
- Reset the bedroom, tidy the closet, pet the dogs
The agents do these
- Triage my email
- Work through open issues
- Check the loops that ran overnight
- Bring me the things that need a decision
Starting the agents is a step in the routine, in the same place as starting the dishwasher. It happens before I sit down.
What I dropped
I have tried most of the morning routines. I used to meditate in the morning. I used to read for an hour. I still do both. They happen later in the day now.
There are no robots for the laundry or the closet. I want them.
